We mentioned in other articles about two incidents/accidents that happened last year in the paving industry. Both of these could have been prevented if safety measures were in place and if the workers were thoroughly trained to handle machines and protect themselves from accidents. Of course, we are not putting the blame on anyone but these two freak accidents highlight the need for greater engagement between the worker and the contractor especially in the field of Haines City parking lot paving.
When hiring workers for a paving company, don’t just look into the academic qualifications. Look for the physical manifestations that the workers are physically equipped to handle the machines and the kind of work involved in paving a driveway or parking lot.
Though we don’t mean to discriminate everyone, the paving work really fits people who are physically gifted and are strong enough to operate and move frequently around the machines.
Training them to handle all kinds of situations while driving the machines will equip them to make better decisions in the future. While accidents happen all the time, they can be prevented when your workers are properly trained.
Updating their knowledge
When there’s a new machine that they have to operate, make sure your people are properly trained before they handle it. Never let your people try to operate a machine unless they have been trained to do so.
It’s not only going to detrimental to the health of your machine. Your workers are also putting their lives at risk by tinkering with something they are not trained for.
Even if you haven’t bought a new machine for the paving company, make sure to send your workers to safety measures training and seminar once in a while. These seminars and training will update their knowledge about the machines and new safety measures they have to take.
Immediate medical response
When running a business such as a paving company, you need to make sure that there are insurance policies ready for your workers and that immediate medical response is available when accidents happen. When your workers are deployed to a particular location, ensure that there’s a medical team ready to respond to their needs.
As a precaution, you need to protect your company’s interests, too, and that means taking out an insurance policy that will shield you from possible lawsuits arising from accidents in the workplace.
