Signs your Parking Lot needs repaving

Three Signs For Parking Lot Paving

Now that we know asphalt is one of the most cost-effective and environment-friendly options for paving your driveway or even your commercial parking lot, it’s time to talk about how to take care of it and how to know when’s the time to start thinking about repaving it.

Asphalt paving typically has a long lifespan, but it doesn’t last forever. On average, asphalt pavement can last for 25 years, though there are numerous factors that can affect its lifespan, such as traffic, climate and maintenance routine.

There are a number of signs that would indicate it’s time to repave your parking lot. These are three of the most important things you should look out for in your pavement:

Cracks

There are different types of cracks—alligatoring, shrinkage, widening, edge cracks, slippage and reflection—that can appear on your pavement. The key to preventing further damage is to address the cracks once they started appearing. Once you see a lot of cracks on your pavement, it’s time to call General Asphalt and see if there are immediate solutions to your predicament. Remember, even a hairline crack can lead to large potholes and crumbling pavement.

Divots

Divot is a term used when a golf club tear up a little chunk of grass from the course, or for a turf that gets dug out of the ground. In parking lots, divots are caused by vehicles sitting on one spot for an extended period of time. It can also be caused by the parking of heavy vehicles such as trailers and 10-wheelers. Divots cause water puddling, which could then result to the wearing and the tearing of your parking lot or your driveway. Consistent puddles of water can shorten your parking lot’s lifespan.

Breakdown

Once your parking lot is on the stage of breakdown, it’s time to call your contractor and schedule a repaving as soon as possible. In fact, the best advice to prolong the lifespan of your parking lot is to never let it get to the point of breakdown. As soon as you see potholes and cracks on it, have someone take a look at it and schedule a regular maintenance.
