Plant City Parking Lot Paving: Summer Asphalt and Winter Asphalt

Plant City parking lot paving asphalt is something that plenty of people are familiar with. There’s something comforting about the clean blackness of the asphalt, whether you’re pulling up to your house’s driveway, or looking for a parking spot at a local shop.

However, while this is a familiar sight, we as laymen, we can’t exactly tell two different types of asphalt apart. We can definitely tell asphalt apart from another kind of material, but it’s very difficult and nearly impossible for us to tell the difference between two types of asphalt. If you’re in the market for a new parking lot pavement, you might be beginning to find out that there is more than just one kind of asphalt.

There are plenty of types of mixes that can be used to make up your pavement, and each one serves a specific purpose. Here, we will talk about summer and winter asphalt, and how these are used in relation to your pavement.

Summer asphalt

Summer asphalt, or hot asphalt is the more common type of asphalt mix. Because it is highly recommended that you apply your pavement during the summer months, a hot mix is used.

When laying down asphalt for installation, your asphalt should be maintained at a specific temperature to guarantee maximum durability. If it is too cold, it won’t set right, causing it to become too brittle, and prone to more damage.

A hotter mix asphalt is used during very hot weather (above 40 degrees) because it tends to cool down faster, which isn’t ideal if you’re transporting it to far location.

Summer asphalt must be applied during warm and dry weather, otherwise, the compaction of the asphalt might be severely compromised, resulting in a weaker pavement.

Winter asphalt

Winter asphalt is asphalt that is typically used in colder months, as the name suggests. However, unlike summer asphalt, this type of mix is produced and applied in much smaller batches because of how long it takes for cooler asphalt in colder weather to cure as opposed to a warmer and drier environment.

Because of this, winter asphalt is used to fix up cracks and patch certain types of damage during the colder season. The great thing about colder asphalt is that it can be stored and used again with no trouble at all, as opposed to warmer asphalt mixes wherein they have to be reheated in order to be used.

Ideally, you want to install you Plant City parking lot paving during the summer months, as these are the ideal conditions for pavement installation. However, if you need something urgently fixed or patched up during the cooler months, there is a solution for you in the form of winter asphalt.
